Get tutoring leads in Australia

Tutoring requests say who the student is and what they are working towards. The subject comes from a short list covering mathematics, English and writing, French, science, test preparation and coding, and it arrives alongside the level — elementary school through to adult learners.

What a tutoring lead shows you

Every tutoring request answers these questions before it reaches you. Follow-up questions appear only when an earlier answer calls for them.

Frequency tells you what kind of commitment is on offer: once a week, several times a week, or only before an exam. A standing weekly booking and a two-week push before a final are different plans, and the preview shows which one you are being asked for.

    • For me or my family

The guide clients get on this site

We publish a tutoring guide for clients. It is written for them, not for us, and its headings are a fair list of what someone who has read it will ask you about.

Read the tutoring guide

What the guide covers

  • Working with children screening, state by state
  • How a parent actually verifies a private tutor
  • A working with children check is not a police check
  • The tutoring market in Australia
  • Sessions at home and sessions online
  • Where tutoring arrangements go wrong
  • What to ask before the first paid session

Questions it answers

  • Does a private tutor legally need a working with children check?
  • How do I check that a tutor's clearance is real?
  • Does a tutor need a separate check for each state?
  • How long does a check last?
  • Is a police check enough instead?
  • Do I need a tutor who is a registered teacher?

Working with children screening, state by state

From our guide for this trade, with the official sources it was checked against.

  • New South Wales: the Working with Children Check is a requirement for anyone who works or volunteers in child-related work, and the Check lasts for five years even if the person changes jobs.
  • New South Wales defines child-related work as providing services for children and young people under 18, where the work normally involves being face to face with children and where contact with children is more than incidental to the work — which describes ordinary one-to-one tutoring.
  • Victoria: a person who passes the Working with Children Check is given a Working with Children Clearance, and the digital version sits in the Service Victoria app where the QR code can be scanned to see whether it is current or expired.
  • Victoria's screening looks at criminal history, certain court orders, relevant findings by certain professional disciplinary bodies, and other information relevant to child safety including allegations of abuse and misconduct towards children.
  • Queensland: Blue Card Services administers the blue card system, which is Queensland's Working with Children Check, and it publishes separate guidance on who needs a card and on interstate working with children checks.
  • Because each scheme is its own register with its own application, a tutor who runs sessions on both sides of a border should be asked about each jurisdiction separately.

How matching works

Requests are matched by published rules that are the same for every pro.

How we rank and match pros
  • You receive a request only for services you offer and haven’t excluded, in the areas you serve.
  • Your account must be active, with your email address and phone number verified, and you must be accepting new requests within the daily or weekly limits you set.
  • Requests reach you only with timings you accept, such as emergencies, and budgets that aren’t clearly outside the range you work in.
  • When more pros fit than a lead allows, we give more weight to an exact service match, how directly you cover the area, verification, how quickly you reply and, once you have at least three published reviews, your rating. Never to who pays more.
  • Each lead goes to a limited number of pros, and you see that number before you decide.

Invalid leads and refunds

If a lead turns out to be invalid, you can ask for a refund review from your dashboard. We look at each request and let you know the outcome. A lead may qualify when:

  • The contact details are wrong or don't work.
  • It duplicates a lead you already received.
  • It isn't a real request for work.
  • It's outside the services or areas you listed.

Verification you’ll need

Before you receive leads, you confirm your business email and phone number with one-time codes. Business registration, licence and insurance details are optional during sign-up; once our team checks them, your profile shows what was verified and when.

  • Contact details verified

You confirm your business email and phone number with one-time codes. This is required before you receive leads.

  • Business registration checked

Our team reviews the registration details you provide.

  • Licence and insurance checked

Where your trade calls for a licence or insurance, we review what you provide.

Verification shows which details were checked and when. It isn’t a guarantee of workmanship, and it can’t be bought.

Getting set up for tutoring work

  • Set the levels you teach. Preparing a twelve-year-old and preparing a university student are different jobs, and the level is stated up front.
  • If you tutor online, accept video and phone in your preferences. It widens the area you can serve without adding any travel.
  • Test preparation is its own answer in the request, so name the exams you prepare students for in your profile description.
