Get architectural design leads in Australia

Design requests say which discipline is wanted before anyone is contacted: architectural drawings, interior design, a home inspection, an engineering assessment, a property survey, an energy audit or staging. They also say what the work is for — buying, selling, planning a renovation, or getting a permit through.

What a architectural design lead shows you

Every architectural design request answers these questions before it reaches you. Follow-up questions appear only when an earlier answer calls for them.

Property type is the third answer, and it decides more than it looks like it should. A detached house, a condo unit, a cottage and a multi-unit building are different approval paths for the same drawing, and a permit-driven request runs to the municipality's timetable rather than the owner's.

The guide homeowners get on this site

We publish a architectural design guide for homeowners. It is written for them, not for us, and its headings are a fair list of what someone who has read it will ask you about.

Read the architectural design guide

What the guide covers

  • A protected title, protected differently in every state
  • The board registers; the institute does not
  • What checking the register does and does not tell you
  • How an architectural appointment on a house actually runs
  • Insurance, written terms and the disciplinary backstop
  • Where architect appointments come apart on houses

Questions it answers

  • Can anyone call themselves an architect in Australia?
  • Is there a single national register of Australian architects?
  • Do I need an architect, or will a building designer do?
  • What does it mean if a company is called something architects?
  • How do I check an architect before I sign anything?

Guide last checked 22 September 2026.

Licensing notes by province

Browse all permit guides

Our provincial permit guides don’t list a licence specific to this trade. That isn’t legal advice: check with your province or territory and your municipality before you take on work.

What checking the register does and does not tell you

From our guide for this trade, with the official sources it was checked against.

  • The NSW board publishes a Register of Architects, and its advice to consumers is to confirm the person appears on it and that their registration is current, rather than to accept a description.
  • It also publishes a Register of Disciplinary Action, which is a separate search and the one most people never do.
  • Registration says nothing about insurance for your particular job — the board's own consumer advice is to verify that the architect carries appropriate professional indemnity insurance for the services being provided.
  • A registration in one state is not a registration in another, so check the register of the state where the building is, not where the office is.
  • A company can be approved to offer architectural services without every person in it being an architect, which is normal and lawful, but it means you should ask who specifically will do your work.
  • Nothing on a register indicates experience with small residential work, which is the most common mismatch on a house project.

How matching works

Requests are matched by published rules that are the same for every pro.

How we rank and match pros
  • You receive a request only for services you offer and haven’t excluded, in the areas you serve.
  • Your account must be active, with your email address and phone number verified, and you must be accepting new requests within the daily or weekly limits you set.
  • Requests reach you only with timings you accept, such as emergencies, and budgets that aren’t clearly outside the range you work in.
  • When more pros fit than a lead allows, we give more weight to an exact service match, how directly you cover the area, verification, how quickly you reply and, once you have at least three published reviews, your rating. Never to who pays more.
  • Each lead goes to a limited number of pros, and you see that number before you decide.

Invalid leads and refunds

If a lead turns out to be invalid, you can ask for a refund review from your dashboard. We look at each request and let you know the outcome. A lead may qualify when:

  • The contact details are wrong or don't work.
  • It duplicates a lead you already received.
  • It isn't a real request for work.
  • It's outside the services or areas you listed.

Verification you’ll need

Before you receive leads, you confirm your business email and phone number with one-time codes. Business registration, licence and insurance details are optional during sign-up; once our team checks them, your profile shows what was verified and when.

In this trade, these services often require a licence: Architects. Add your licence details during sign-up so our team can check them.
  • Contact details verified

You confirm your business email and phone number with one-time codes. This is required before you receive leads.

  • Business registration checked

Our team reviews the registration details you provide.

  • Licence and insurance checked

Where your trade calls for a licence or insurance, we review what you provide.

Verification shows which details were checked and when. It isn’t a guarantee of workmanship, and it can’t be bought.

Getting set up for design work

  • Choose only the disciplines you are entitled to sign for. Drawings that need a seal and drawings that do not are separate requests here.
  • If you handle the permit application as well as the design, say so. A request that exists to get a permit through is usually looking for exactly that.
  • Name the property types you take on. Multi-unit and commercial work rules out a lot of residential practices, and saying so early saves everyone time.
