Get recruitment leads in Australia

Hiring requests are specific in the way a recruiter needs them to be. The employer says whether the roles are permanent, temporary or contract, executive or senior leadership, or a volume of hires at once — and how many people that means, from a single role to more than twenty.

What a recruitment lead shows you

Every recruitment request answers these questions before it reaches you. Follow-up questions appear only when an earlier answer calls for them.

Level is asked separately: entry, experienced, manager or executive. A single executive search and twenty entry-level hires are different businesses with different fee structures, and the preview tells them apart before you spend anything. Company headcount comes with it, so you can see who you would be working for.

The guide clients get on this site

We publish a recruitment guide for clients. It is written for them, not for us, and its headings are a fair list of what someone who has read it will ask you about.

Read the recruitment guide

What the guide covers

  • Recruiter, staffing agency or executive search: who employs the worker
  • Recruitment engagement models used in Australia
  • A recruitment brief that produces the right shortlist
  • Privacy, work rights and record obligations in hiring
  • Guarantee periods, replacements and rebates
  • Disputes that come up with recruiters
  • What drives a recruitment fee

Questions it answers

  • Who is the employer when I hire through a recruiter?
  • What should recruiter terms of business cover?
  • Can a recruiter tell me a candidate's current salary or their health?
  • What happens if the person leaves in the first month?
  • Can I advertise a role without stating pay?
  • Is it better to use several agencies or one?

Privacy, work rights and record obligations in hiring

From our guide for this trade, with the official sources it was checked against.

Candidate information is personal information. The Office of the Australian Information Commissioner describes the thirteen Australian Privacy Principles as the cornerstone of the privacy framework in the Privacy Act 1988, governing collection, use and disclosure of personal information, governance and accountability, integrity and correction, and individuals' rights to access their own information. A breach of an Australian Privacy Principle is an interference with the privacy of an individual and can lead to regulatory action and penalties.

In practice that means a recruiter should collect only what is needed, tell candidates how their information will be used and who it will be given to, hold it securely, and have a retention position rather than an indefinite database. Ask what happens to unsuccessful candidates' records.

Work rights need checking for non-citizens before employment starts, using the Department of Home Affairs visa entitlement verification service. Agree in the terms of business whether the recruiter performs that check or you do, and keep the evidence either way.

How matching works

Requests are matched by published rules that are the same for every pro.

How we rank and match pros
  • You receive a request only for services you offer and haven’t excluded, in the areas you serve.
  • Your account must be active, with your email address and phone number verified, and you must be accepting new requests within the daily or weekly limits you set.
  • Requests reach you only with timings you accept, such as emergencies, and budgets that aren’t clearly outside the range you work in.
  • When more pros fit than a lead allows, we give more weight to an exact service match, how directly you cover the area, verification, how quickly you reply and, once you have at least three published reviews, your rating. Never to who pays more.
  • Each lead goes to a limited number of pros, and you see that number before you decide.

Invalid leads and refunds

If a lead turns out to be invalid, you can ask for a refund review from your dashboard. We look at each request and let you know the outcome. A lead may qualify when:

  • The contact details are wrong or don't work.
  • It duplicates a lead you already received.
  • It isn't a real request for work.
  • It's outside the services or areas you listed.

Getting set up for recruitment work

  • Set the hiring types you take. Contingency permanent placement, temporary staffing and retained executive search are rarely the same desk.
  • Say which sectors and functions you recruit in. Employers judge a recruiter on whether they know the roles before anything else.
  • Licensing applies to recruiters and temporary help agencies in some places. Add your licence details during sign-up so our team can check them.
