Get tutoring leads in Canada

Tutoring requests say who the student is and what they are working towards. The subject comes from a short list covering mathematics, English and writing, French, science, test preparation and coding, and it arrives alongside the level — elementary school through to adult learners.

What a tutoring lead shows you

Every tutoring request answers these questions before it reaches you. Follow-up questions appear only when an earlier answer calls for them.

Frequency tells you what kind of commitment is on offer: once a week, several times a week, or only before an exam. A standing weekly booking and a two-week push before a final are different plans, and the preview shows which one you are being asked for.

Do tutors need certification? What the Ontario College of Teachers actually covers

From our guide for this trade, with the official sources it was checked against.

The Ontario College of Teachers is the province's teaching regulator. It issues teaching certificates, sets and enforces standards of practice and conduct, and accredits teacher education programs, and Ontario says that to teach in its publicly funded schools you must be certified by the College and pay an annual membership fee. Ontario Certified Teacher, and the designation OCT, are tied to that membership. Most private schools ask for it too.

None of that reaches private tutoring. A tutor is not required to be a College member, is not subject to the College's standards for the tutoring they sell you, and cannot be complained about to the College for it. So when a tutoring listing mentions a teaching certificate, treat it as a real qualification worth confirming on the College's public register rather than as a licence to tutor, and when a tutor has no certificate, judge the actual subject knowledge and experience instead. Ask which grades and which courses they have taught or tutored, and ask them to walk you through how they would handle the specific topic your child is stuck on.

How matching works

Requests are matched by published rules that are the same for every pro.

How we rank and match pros
  • You receive a request only for services you offer and haven’t excluded, in the areas you serve.
  • Your account must be active, with your email address and phone number verified, and you must be accepting new requests within the daily or weekly limits you set.
  • Requests reach you only with timings you accept, such as emergencies, and budgets that aren’t clearly outside the range you work in.
  • When more pros fit than a lead allows, we give more weight to an exact service match, how directly you cover the area, verification, how quickly you reply and, once you have at least three published reviews, your rating. Never to who pays more.
  • Each lead goes to a limited number of pros, and you see that number before you decide.

Invalid leads and refunds

If a lead turns out to be invalid, you can ask for a refund review from your dashboard. We look at each request and let you know the outcome. A lead may qualify when:

  • The contact details are wrong or don't work.
  • It duplicates a lead you already received.
  • It isn't a real request for work.
  • It's outside the services or areas you listed.

Verification you’ll need

Before you receive leads, you confirm your business email and phone number with one-time codes. Business registration, licence and insurance details are optional during sign-up; once our team checks them, your profile shows what was verified and when.

  • Contact details verified

You confirm your business email and phone number with one-time codes. This is required before you receive leads.

  • Business registration checked

Our team reviews the registration details you provide.

  • Licence and insurance checked

Where your trade calls for a licence or insurance, we review what you provide.

Verification shows which details were checked and when. It isn’t a guarantee of workmanship, and it can’t be bought.

Getting set up for tutoring work

  • Set the levels you teach. Preparing a twelve-year-old and preparing a university student are different jobs, and the level is stated up front.
  • If you tutor online, accept video and phone in your preferences. It widens the area you can serve without adding any travel.
  • Test preparation is its own answer in the request, so name the exams you prepare students for in your profile description.
