About this draft

Requires legal review before production publication. This is a working draft, not final legal language, and it may change before LokalMatch launches publicly. It isn't a statement that LokalMatch meets the requirements of any particular law.

Some sections cover paying for jobs through LokalMatch and saved-card charging for pros, which aren't available yet. Those sections will apply only once the feature launches in your country, and we'll tell you before they do.

Who processes payments

Payments on LokalMatch are processed by Stripe. Card details are entered in Stripe's secure payment form and stored by Stripe, not by LokalMatch. We keep only what we need to show your payments, such as the amount, the currency, the card brand and the last four digits.

Merchant of record (open item)

Open item for legal review: we haven't yet decided whether LokalMatch or the pro is the merchant of record for job payments, that is, the party that sells the service in the payment and appears on your card statement. This affects who issues receipts, who handles refunds first and how tax is charged. This section will be completed before job payments launch, and your checkout and receipt will name the merchant of record.

Lead fees for pros

Pros pay lead fees with prepaid LokalMatch credits and, once saved cards are available, a saved card. Credits are used first, and any remaining amount is charged to the saved card when the lead is delivered, if you've authorised that. The provider agreement sets out the saved-card authorisation.

Lead prices are shown with their currency before you accept a lead. Credits are bought through Stripe's checkout, and every purchase appears in your billing history.

Paying for a job (planned)

When a pro sends you a quote through LokalMatch, it shows the total price, taxes, any fees and the payment schedule, such as a deposit, progress payments and a final payment. Each payment is taken only when it's due under the schedule you accepted.

Your payment is collected through LokalMatch and paid out to your pro when the milestone it covers is approved or the job is confirmed complete, or automatically a set number of days after completion if you haven't raised a problem. Payments are released on these defined events, not held open-ended. Open item for legal review: the automatic release period.

Deposits and progress payments (planned)

Deposits and progress payments must follow the rules where the work is done, and we plan to apply these limits at checkout, subject to legal review:

  • Ontario: there's no fixed deposit limit, but the province recommends no more than 10%. For some products sold at home, such as furnaces, air conditioners and water heaters, no payment can be taken during the 10-day cooling-off period.
  • Québec: for a contract made at your home with a travelling merchant, no payment can generally be taken in the first 10 days after you receive the contract. For contracts made online, payments before the work is done should only be taken by credit card.
  • British Columbia: for a contract made in person away from the pro's business premises, the deposit is limited to the lesser of CA$100 and 10% of the total price.
  • Alberta: a pro who takes any payment before the work is finished, on a contract concluded in person away from their business premises, needs a prepaid contracting licence.
  • California: a deposit can't be more than US$1,000 or 10% of the contract price, whichever is less, and later payments can't exceed the value of the work done or materials delivered.
  • Florida: there's no fixed limit, but a deposit over 10% requires the contractor to apply for permits within 30 days and start work within 90 days of the permit being issued.
  • United Kingdom: there's no fixed limit, but a deposit must stay refundable during the 14-day cancellation period unless you asked for work to start early, and cancellation charges must be proportionate.
  • New South Wales: for residential building work over A$5,000, a deposit can't be more than 10%. For work over A$20,000, no deposit or other payment can be taken until home building compensation cover is in place and you've received the certificate.
  • Victoria: a deposit is limited to 10% for contracts under A$20,000 and 5% for contracts of A$20,000 or more. New regulations may change these limits from 1 December 2026.
  • Queensland: a deposit is limited to 20% for work of A$3,300 or less, 10% for work from A$3,301 to A$19,999 and 5% for work of A$20,000 or more.
  • Other places: we'll check the local rules and add them here before job payments launch there.

Taxes

Pros are responsible for tax on their work. A quote can include tax only if the pro is registered to charge it, and the receipt shows the pro's tax registration number. LokalMatch charges tax on its own fees where it's registered to.

Currency

Every price and payment shows its currency, and you're charged in the currency shown. If your card is in a different currency, your bank may add conversion fees.

Receipts

You'll receive a receipt for every payment, and pros can see lead purchases, credits and payments in their billing history. Open item for legal review: invoice and receipt contents for each country.

Failed payments

If a payment fails or your bank asks you to confirm it, we'll tell you and ask you to try again. For pros, paid leads pause until the payment is sorted out. For homeowners, we'll let you and your pro know so you can agree what happens next.

Disputes and chargebacks

If something's wrong with a charge, contact us first: pros@lokalmatch.com for pros, trust@lokalmatch.com for homeowners. You can always dispute a card charge with your bank, and nothing in these terms takes that right away.

While a job payment is disputed, we may pause further payouts for that job until the dispute is resolved.

Keeping payments safe

We'll never ask for your full card number or your password by email, text or phone. If someone does, don't share it, and tell us at trust@lokalmatch.com.
