Get business consulting leads in the UK
Business consulting requests arrive with the shape of the engagement already settled. The owner has said whether the work is strategy, operations, a business plan, a franchise, a sales process or the sale of the company itself, and whether the business is an idea, under three years old, established, or heading for succession. You read all of that before you spend anything.

What a business consulting lead shows you
Every business consulting request answers these questions before it reaches you. Follow-up questions appear only when an earlier answer calls for them.
A pre-launch founder who needs a business plan and an established company planning an exit are different engagements, and the preview separates them. Requests also carry the headcount and whether the owner wants to meet in person or by video, so you can judge travel and scope before you connect.

The guide clients get on this site
We publish a business consulting guide for clients. It is written for them, not for us, and its headings are a fair list of what someone who has read it will ask you about.
What the guide covers
- What a UK business consultant is actually hired to do
- Turning a vague brief into a scope you can hold someone to
- Consultant, interim manager or contractor, and why the label matters
- No licence to check: what stands in for one
- Day rates, fixed fees and retainers in the British market
- Warning signs in a consulting proposal
- Confidentiality, data and what you hand over
Questions it answers
- Do business consultants need a licence in the UK?
- Who decides employment status for tax if I hire a consultant through their company?
- What counts as a small company for off-payroll working purposes?
- How long should a first consulting engagement be?
- Should the consultant or my staff do the implementation?
- What should I put in the contract that people usually forget?

Confidentiality, data and what you hand over
From our guide for this trade, with the official sources it was checked against.
Most consulting engagements involve handing over payroll files, customer lists or management accounts. Where that includes personal data, you remain accountable for it under UK data protection law, and the arrangement needs to be written down rather than assumed.
Decide before the kick-off meeting whether the consultant needs real personal data at all. Anonymised or aggregated figures answer most commercial questions, and they remove the problem rather than manage it.
Agree what happens at the end: returned or deleted, by when, and confirmed in writing. An engagement that ends with your customer database sitting in someone's personal cloud account is a problem you created on day one.

How matching works
Requests are matched by published rules that are the same for every pro.
How we rank and match pros- You receive a request only for services you offer and haven’t excluded, in the areas you serve.
- Your account must be active, with your email address and phone number verified, and you must be accepting new requests within the daily or weekly limits you set.
- Requests reach you only with timings you accept, such as emergencies, and budgets that aren’t clearly outside the range you work in.
- When more pros fit than a lead allows, we give more weight to an exact service match, how directly you cover the area, verification, how quickly you reply and, once you have at least three published reviews, your rating. Never to who pays more.
- Each lead goes to a limited number of pros, and you see that number before you decide.
Invalid leads and refunds
If a lead turns out to be invalid, you can ask for a refund review from your dashboard. We look at each request and let you know the outcome. A lead may qualify when:
- The contact details are wrong or don't work.
- It duplicates a lead you already received.
- It isn't a real request for work.
- It's outside the services or areas you listed.
Verification you’ll need
Before you receive leads, you confirm your business email and phone number with one-time codes. Business registration, licence and insurance details are optional during sign-up; once our team checks them, your profile shows what was verified and when.
Contact details verified
You confirm your business email and phone number with one-time codes. This is required before you receive leads.
Business registration checked
Our team reviews the registration details you provide.
Licence and insurance checked
Where your trade calls for a licence or insurance, we review what you provide.
Verification shows which details were checked and when. It isn’t a guarantee of workmanship, and it can’t be bought.

- Set the company sizes you work with in your lead preferences. Advising a sole trader and advising a two-hundred-person firm are different practices.
- Name the engagements you take in your profile description — a single advice session, a defined project, a retainer — because the client chooses between them in the request.
- If you work by video only, say so. Clients state a meeting preference, and matching it saves you both a conversation.
