Translation is written; interpreting is spoken, in person or by phone or video. Certified translations are often required for immigration applications, courts and official records. In Canada, certified translators are members of a provincial association of translators, and the organisation asking for a document can tell you which certification it accepts.

Ask which language pairs a translator works in and in which direction, how they check quality and how long the work will take. For interpreting, describe the setting, such as a legal appointment, a business meeting or a conference, because each calls for different experience. Confirm the format you need, whether a printed copy is required and the deadline in writing, and say what the document is for so the right level of certification is used.
