Environmental consultants carry out environmental site assessments, often before a property is bought, sold or financed, and help with permits and compliance. Sustainability consultants help with carbon footprints, ESG reporting and net-zero plans. Risk consultants assess business risks and plan for continuity, and ISO consultants help organisations prepare for certification to ISO management system standards.

Ask about experience in your industry and with the regulator or certification body involved, what the deliverables are and how the work will be documented. An ISO consultant can prepare you for an audit, but the certificate itself is issued by an independent certification body. Agree the scope, the reporting format and who owns the data, reports and models produced, and confirm whether the work will be reviewed or signed by a qualified professional.
