Get environmental consulting leads in the US

Advisory requests state the reason behind the work, which is the fact that decides how quickly it has to happen. The client says whether a customer or a tender requires it, whether a regulation or a permit does, whether a property is being bought, sold or financed, or whether this is their own improvement with no deadline attached.

What a environmental consulting lead shows you

Every environmental consulting request answers these questions before it reaches you. Follow-up questions appear only when an earlier answer calls for them.

The work itself is picked from a short list: a site assessment or permits, sustainability and ESG reporting, risk assessment and business continuity, or certification against a named standard. Where a standard is chosen, the request says which one, so a quality audit never reaches you as an information-security job.

    • ISO 14001 (environment)
    • ISO 45001 (health and safety)
    • ISO 27001 (information security)
    • Another standard

The guide clients get on this site

We publish a environmental consulting guide for clients. It is written for them, not for us, and its headings are a fair list of what someone who has read it will ask you about.

Read the environmental consulting guide

What the guide covers

  • Phase I assessments, ASTM E1527 and the All Appropriate Inquiries rule
  • What the federal rule makes your consultant actually do
  • How long a Phase I stays good before you close
  • Phase I, Phase II and the work that follows a finding
  • RCRA duties that come with the building once you own it
  • Brownfields funding and state voluntary cleanup programs
  • Where Phase I reports fail the people who paid for them

Questions it answers

  • Does a Phase I assessment test the soil?
  • Who is allowed to sign the report?
  • Can I rely on the seller's assessment?
  • We are buying a house, not a factory. Does this apply?
  • What if the assessment finds contamination?
  • How do I check a consultant before hiring?

Brownfields funding and state voluntary cleanup programs

From our guide for this trade, with the official sources it was checked against.

EPA's Brownfields Program awards competitive grants for assessment and cleanup, for capitalizing revolving loan funds and for environmental job training. Eligible entities include states, Tribes, local governments, regional governments and quasi-governmental entities. EPA requires that every Phase I paid for with a Brownfields Assessment Grant comply with the AAI Final Rule, and prohibits grantees from spending grant money on response costs at a site where the grantee is itself potentially liable.

Below the federal layer, most states run a voluntary cleanup program. EPA describes memorandums of agreement between its regional offices and state environmental programs that coordinate roles on site cleanup, and says the number of properties entering voluntary response programs shows the growing state role in brownfields work. For a developer, the attraction is a negotiated, documented end point from the state rather than an open-ended question.

Entry criteria, the paperwork and the closure letter differ from state to state, so the consultant you choose should have worked inside your state's programme before rather than reading the guidance for the first time on your project.

How matching works

Requests are matched by published rules that are the same for every pro.

How we rank and match pros
  • You receive a request only for services you offer and haven’t excluded, in the areas you serve.
  • Your account must be active, with your email address and phone number verified, and you must be accepting new requests within the daily or weekly limits you set.
  • Requests reach you only with timings you accept, such as emergencies, and budgets that aren’t clearly outside the range you work in.
  • When more pros fit than a lead allows, we give more weight to an exact service match, how directly you cover the area, verification, how quickly you reply and, once you have at least three published reviews, your rating. Never to who pays more.
  • Each lead goes to a limited number of pros, and you see that number before you decide.

Invalid leads and refunds

If a lead turns out to be invalid, you can ask for a refund review from your dashboard. We look at each request and let you know the outcome. A lead may qualify when:

  • The contact details are wrong or don't work.
  • It duplicates a lead you already received.
  • It isn't a real request for work.
  • It's outside the services or areas you listed.

Verification you’ll need

Before you receive leads, you confirm your business email and phone number with one-time codes. Business registration, licence and insurance details are optional during sign-up; once our team checks them, your profile shows what was verified and when.

  • Contact details verified

You confirm your business email and phone number with one-time codes. This is required before you receive leads.

  • Business registration checked

Our team reviews the registration details you provide.

  • Licence and insurance checked

Where your trade calls for a licence or insurance, we review what you provide.

Verification shows which details were checked and when. It isn’t a guarantee of workmanship, and it can’t be bought.

Getting set up for environmental consulting work

  • Choose only the standards you are qualified to advise on. The client names the standard in the request, and the wrong match is obvious immediately.
  • A site assessment tied to a property purchase runs to somebody else's timetable. Accept the faster timings only if you can genuinely meet them.
  • Say in your profile which sectors you have worked in. A tender-driven client is usually checking whether you know their industry before anything else.
