Get digital marketing leads in the US

Marketing requests name the channels before you ever reply: search, paid ads, social, content, email, strategy, public relations or a website build. The business also says what it is trying to move — more enquiries, more online sales, awareness, or a launch — so a retainer conversation is easy to tell from a one-off build.

What a digital marketing lead shows you

Every digital marketing request answers these questions before it reaches you. Follow-up questions appear only when an earlier answer calls for them.

Whether the client already has a website changes the job completely, and the request answers it outright: yes, no, or being built right now. Headcount comes with it, so a solo founder who wants to be found in search and a mid-sized company that wants paid media and press arrive as clearly different briefs.

The guide clients get on this site

We publish a digital marketing guide for clients. It is written for them, not for us, and its headings are a fair list of what someone who has read it will ask you about.

What the guide covers

  • What a digital marketing agency actually covers
  • Truth in advertising: the baseline every US campaign sits on
  • Customer data when there is no single federal privacy law
  • How a US agency engagement is usually structured
  • Agency, freelancer or an in-house marketer
  • Ownership and exit terms to settle before you sign
  • Where digital marketing retainers go wrong

Questions it answers

  • Is a digital marketing agency licensed or certified in the United States?
  • Can an agency be blamed if an ad it wrote turns out to be misleading?
  • What should a monthly marketing report contain?
  • How long before digital marketing produces results?
  • Do I need a privacy policy before running campaigns?

Customer data when there is no single federal privacy law

From our guide for this trade, with the official sources it was checked against.

The United States has no general consumer privacy statute. The FTC polices privacy through its deception and unfairness authority, which means that if your site or your agency promises something about data, expressly or by implication, you have to live up to it. Sector laws cover specific data: COPPA for children under 13, the Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act for financial institutions, the Fair Credit Reporting Act for credit data. Everything else is state law.

California and Colorado show what that looks like in practice. The California Consumer Privacy Act gives residents rights to know, delete, correct, opt out of sale or sharing, and limit use of sensitive information, and a business that sells or shares personal information has to carry a clear opt-out link and honour browser opt-out signals. Colorado's Privacy Act, in force since 1 July 2023, adds a universal opt-out mechanism, consent before processing sensitive data, and data protection assessments. An agency that touches your CRM, pixels or ad audiences is handling this data for you, so the contract needs to say what they may do with it.

How matching works

Requests are matched by published rules that are the same for every pro.

How we rank and match pros
  • You receive a request only for services you offer and haven’t excluded, in the areas you serve.
  • Your account must be active, with your email address and phone number verified, and you must be accepting new requests within the daily or weekly limits you set.
  • Requests reach you only with timings you accept, such as emergencies, and budgets that aren’t clearly outside the range you work in.
  • When more pros fit than a lead allows, we give more weight to an exact service match, how directly you cover the area, verification, how quickly you reply and, once you have at least three published reviews, your rating. Never to who pays more.
  • Each lead goes to a limited number of pros, and you see that number before you decide.

Invalid leads and refunds

If a lead turns out to be invalid, you can ask for a refund review from your dashboard. We look at each request and let you know the outcome. A lead may qualify when:

  • The contact details are wrong or don't work.
  • It duplicates a lead you already received.
  • It isn't a real request for work.
  • It's outside the services or areas you listed.

Verification you’ll need

Before you receive leads, you confirm your business email and phone number with one-time codes. Business registration, licence and insurance details are optional during sign-up; once our team checks them, your profile shows what was verified and when.

  • Contact details verified

You confirm your business email and phone number with one-time codes. This is required before you receive leads.

  • Business registration checked

Our team reviews the registration details you provide.

  • Licence and insurance checked

Where your trade calls for a licence or insurance, we review what you provide.

Verification shows which details were checked and when. It isn’t a guarantee of workmanship, and it can’t be bought.

Getting set up for marketing work

  • Pick only the channels you genuinely run. Clients tick several at once, and matching on one you subcontract is how a good fit becomes a bad month.
  • Say whether you work on retainer, by project, or both. The client chooses between one-off and monthly in the request itself.
  • If you build websites as well, name the platforms you work on. Clients who answer that a site is being built often need someone to finish it.
