Checking a pro before you hire
Verification shows what we checked and when. These simple checks help you confirm the details yourself before work starts.
Start with the profile
- Look at the verification level and the date next to each check.
- Read the reviews, and look for the Verified label on reviews tied to a LokalMatch connection.
- Check that the services and areas the pro lists match your job.
Confirm the details yourself
- Confirm a licence number with the body that issued it, especially for electrical, gas and other regulated work.
- Ask for proof of insurance and check it with the insurer.
- Ask whether permits are needed and who will get them.
- Ask for references or photos of similar jobs.
Before you agree to anything
- Get the quote, the scope of work and the timeline in writing.
- Avoid paying a large amount upfront, and be careful about paying in cash.
- Keep a record of payments and of any changes to the job.
