How we check a pro's licence and insurance
Every check says what was checked, when, and the source. Here's how checks are done, and why a badge lapses and has to be done again.

What a check states
A pro's profile lists the checks we've done, and each one says three things: what was checked, the date it was checked, and the source it was checked against. Nothing more is claimed.
There are four kinds of check on a public profile: a licence, insurance, a business registration and a certification. A pro's business email address and phone number are confirmed separately with one-time codes.
How a check is done
Everything is done by a person. We run no automated registry lookups, no identity checks and no background checks, and we never say we did.
- On a public register: we look the pro up on the register of the body that issued it, and the check names that register.
- From a document: the pro sends us the licence, certificate or registration document, and a person on our team reviews it. The check names the body the document came from.
- For insurance, a check done against the insurer says the cover was confirmed with them on that date.
Reference numbers
Where a licence or a business registration has a number, we show it with the check, along with a link to the register where there is one, so you can look it up yourself.
Insurance policy numbers are never shown publicly. They identify a policy and belong to the pro and their insurer.
Why a badge lapses
A check isn't permanent. It stops showing on the profile at whichever comes first: the expiry date on the document, or the date it's due to be checked again.
Licences are re-checked at least every 180 days, because a licence can be suspended or withdrawn between checks. Insurance, business registrations and certifications are re-checked at least once a year.
A re-check is recorded as a new check, so the profile always shows a real date rather than one that quietly rolls forward. Losing a check can also lower the profile's verification level.
Reminders before an expiry
We remind a pro 30 days and 7 days before a licence or insurance expiry, so they can send the renewed document before the badge lapses. Pros can see and update their credentials under Verification in the dashboard.
What a check isn't
- It isn't a promise about the quality, price or conduct of the work.
- It's evidence from one moment: things can change the day after we look.
- It can't be bought, and paying for leads changes nothing about it.
- It doesn't make LokalMatch a party to your job. Your agreement is with the pro.
