A CPA is a certified public accountant licensed by a state board of accountancy, so the license is issued and renewed state by state rather than nationally: ask which state issued it and check it with that board. Bookkeepers and tax preparers don’t hold that license, which can suit simpler needs. Ask which credential a firm holds, which accounting software they work in, and how they charge: hourly, per return or a monthly fee.
