Environmental consultants carry out environmental site assessments, often before a property is bought, sold or financed, and help with permits and compliance. Sustainability consultants help with carbon footprints, ESG reporting and net-zero plans. Risk consultants assess business risks and plan for continuity, and ISO consultants help organisations prepare for certification to ISO management system standards.

Ask about experience in your industry and with the agency or certification body involved, what the deliverables are and how the work will be documented. Environmental site assessment work often overlaps with professional engineering, which is a licensed profession, so ask who will sign the report. An ISO consultant can prepare you for an audit, but the certificate itself is issued by an independent certification body.
