    There is federal money, but you do not apply to Ottawa for it. The Canada Greener Homes Affordability Program is the live programme, and provinces, territories and utilities deliver it — you apply to the programme where you live. It is aimed at low-to-median-income homeowners and tenants and works as a direct install, meaning the delivery organisation arranges and plans the retrofit rather than reimbursing you after the fact.

    When this page was checked, applications were open through British Columbia (via BC Hydro or FortisBC), Manitoba, Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island and Quebec, with more provinces and territories listed as they launch.

    The Oil to Heat Pump Affordability programme, which paid to get households off oil heat, stopped accepting applications on 31 July 2026.

    One warning worth repeating because it costs people real money: Natural Resources Canada says it has not approved any third party to make unsolicited contact with homeowners about this programme. A cold call or a knock at the door about federal retrofit money is not the programme.
