   No — not unless you invited them, by scheduled appointment, before they turned up. Ontario has banned door-to-door sales of furnaces, air conditioners, water heaters, water softeners and water purifiers since 1 March 2018, and the ban is on the visit itself, not just on the pressure.

   If you signed anyway, because of unsolicited door-to-door marketing or because of misleading material left at your home, the contract is void and Ontario’s position is that you keep the goods or services with no obligation at all. That is a much stronger remedy than a cancellation right, and it does not run out on you after a set number of days.

   The word doing the work is invited. A flyer, a phone call offering to “send a technician round”, or a neighbour’s referral is not an appointment you booked. If you did not put it in your own calendar, it is not one.

   So take the company name, close the door, and look them up. Nobody legitimate needs your signature on your own doorstep today.
